SCO Trade Council Chairman , Dr. A.V. Srinivasan Inaugurates Wellness Centre in Bangalore, Emphasizes SCO Collaboration

Bangalore, India — Dr. A.V. Srinivasan, Chairman of the SCO Trade Council, today inaugurated a state-of-the-art wellness center in Bangalore, marking a significant step toward deeper cooperation in health and holistic wellbeing among Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) partners. The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests from Russia, recognized as one of the SCO’s most active partners in cross-sector collaboration.

The newly opened centre aims to integrate modern therapeutic approaches with traditional wellness practices, reflecting India’s long-standing heritage in holistic health systems. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Srinivasan highlighted the growing global focus on preventive healthcare and lifestyle-based wellbeing.

“India has always viewed wellness not merely as the absence of disease, but as a balance of mind, body, and spirit,” he said. “This centre embodies that philosophy while embracing innovation, research, and international partnerships.”

Expanding Wellness Horizons in India and Russia

India’s wellness sector has witnessed rapid expansion in recent years, driven by rising awareness of preventive health, increased adoption of yoga and Ayurveda, and growing medical tourism. Industry analysts note that India’s blend of affordability, skilled practitioners, and ancient knowledge systems positions it as a global hub for integrative wellness solutions.

Russia, too, has seen rising interest in wellness, with increasing investments in rehabilitation medicine, spa therapies, sports science, and mental health initiatives. Russian delegates at the event underscored the country’s emphasis on combining medical expertise with restorative and lifestyle-oriented treatments.

A Russian representative attending the inauguration remarked, “Wellness is becoming central to public health policy worldwide. Collaboration with India offers valuable opportunities to integrate traditional practices with clinical and scientific frameworks.”

Vision for SCO-wide Wellness Cooperation

In his keynote address, Dr. Srinivasan outlined a broader vision for expanding wellness initiatives across SCO member states.

“Wellness is a universal priority transcending borders,” he stated. “India’s capabilities — supported by its ancient knowledge, skilled workforce, and evolving research ecosystem — can contribute meaningfully to SCO countries seeking sustainable and preventive health models.”

He added that the SCO Trade Council would explore frameworks for:

  • Cross-border wellness tourism
  • Knowledge exchange in traditional and integrative medicine
  • Joint research and training programs
  • Investment partnerships in healthcare and wellbeing infrastructure

“Our goal is to build a wellness corridor among SCO nations,” Dr. Srinivasan said. “By combining India’s heritage with the technological and medical strengths of partner countries like Russia, we can foster healthier societies and new avenues for economic cooperation.”

A Platform for Cultural and Economic Synergy

The inauguration underscored the increasing convergence of healthcare, trade, and cultural diplomacy within the SCO framework. Observers view wellness as a promising domain that not only improves public health outcomes but also stimulates sectors such as tourism, pharmaceuticals, education, and technology.

The Bangalore wellness centre is expected to serve as a model for future SCO-linked initiatives, symbolizing the intersection of tradition, innovation, and international partnership.

As the ceremony concluded, delegates expressed optimism that wellness cooperation could become a cornerstone of SCO engagement in the coming decade — advancing both human wellbeing and regional connectivity.
