India and Uzbekistan share longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties, and in recent years, economic cooperation has gained renewed momentum. As a founding member of the SCO, Uzbekistan holds an important position in connecting South Asia with Central Asia and the broader Eurasian market.Trade volumes have shown steady growth, supported by policy dialogue, business delegations, and institutional engagement across sectors. Uzbekistan’s evolving investment climate, supported by the development of industrial and free economic zones, offers structured incentives that are drawing attention from Indian manufacturers and technology providers.
Against this backdrop, Mr. Parmod Kumar, Honorary Trade Commissioner of the SCO Trade Council – Delhi, attended a high-level industry interaction with H.E. Mr. Sardor Mirzayusupovich Rustambaev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to India. The close door conference saw representation from a broad spectrum of Indian sectors, including information technology, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, automobile manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, and MSME clusters.
During the interaction, discussions centered on translating diplomatic goodwill into tangible business outcomes, identifying sectors where Indian expertise aligns with Uzbekistan’s development priorities, and facilitating smoother market access for Indian companies.
H.E. Rustambaev highlighted Uzbekistan’s focus on industrial growth and diversification. The country’s industrial zones offer structured incentives for foreign investors, particularly in pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and consumer manufacturing. The technology sector is another area of growing importance, with Uzbekistan inviting Indian IT firms to contribute to digital transformation, software development, and skills training initiatives.
Healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturing were discussed as sectors with strong collaboration potential, given India’s established capabilities and Uzbekistan’s rising domestic demand. The automobile industry, including the expanding electric vehicle segment, also presents opportunities for component manufacturing and technology partnerships.
The interaction demonstrated a shared commitment to strengthening economic cooperation through direct industry engagement. Mr. Parmod Kumar’s presence showcased the SCO Trade Council’s role in facilitating business connectivity and supporting Indian enterprises as they explore opportunities in Uzbekistan and the wider SCO region
