Xi Jinping calls for ‘dragon and elephant’ unity in Republic Day message to India

On India’s Republic Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China views the relationship as one in which both sides “help each other succeed,” and emphasised the value of the “dragon and the elephant dancing together,” which he described as the appropriate path for both countries.

As India bears the brunt of US President Donald Trump’s tariff war, New Delhi received warm, neighbourly Republic Day greetings from Beijing, with Chinese President Xi Jinping saying that “dragon and elephant dancing together” is the right choice for both countries.
Stressing that it is the “right choice” for the two sides to tango, Chinese envoy to India Xu Feihong joined in, saying, “It should be the right choice for China and India to be good neighbourly friends and partners who help each other succeed, and have the dragon and the elephant dance together.”
President Xi also noted that the development of relations between India and China aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations and contributes significantly to world peace and prosperity.
